Our History

Margaret Weigman, who had been in the early childhood profession since 1969, started her first educational preschool in 1972 called the "Sherman Park Nursery School". After seven years in business the center became so successful that her landlord bought her out. Realizing the need for quality educational based preschool programs in the greater Milwaukee area, Margaret sought out new venues to share her expertise.
Margaret opened the Suburban Preschool in 1973 utilizing the excellent facilities of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. A year later the Elm Grove Preschool opened its doors within the comfortable confines of St. Edmund's Episcopal Church. With the increased demand from our customers for an all day program, Elm Grove (1981) and then Suburban (1993) eventually became both educational preschools and full day child care centers.
With the expansion of business came the need for managers with similar philosophies as her own. To create a cohesive unit, Margaret turned to two of her three daughters and one of her five sons to aid in the running of daily operations. With her retirement in 1993, her daughters Julie Peggs and Jean Charboneau and son Rick Weigman took over ownership and management of the centers. In November of 2008 the family added a third center to serve the community of Hartland.

Today

Today, Julie Peggs is the Program Director for both the Suburban Preschool and Child Care Center and the Hartland Preschool and Child Care Center. Jean Charboneau is the Program Director at the Elm Grove Preschool and Child Care Center. Their brother Rick Weigman is the Business Manager for all three locations.
Although Weigman's Preschools have evolved from a strictly morning academic program into all day centers, the emphasis remains on the educational component of the programs. We are here to help your child build strong readiness skills all within a loving, caring and fun environment.

Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to support a child’s growth in the four key areas of development:

  • Physical
  • Social-Emotional
  • Cognitive
  • Adaptive

We use a thematic approach to learning. These themes are presented with age appropriate activities and lesson plans. Examples include discussions and lessons on animals, health and the human body, occupations, outer space, and life on the farm. Children are exposed to various areas of interest including the fundamentals of:

  • Math
  • Science
  • Reading
  • The Arts

Your child will have opportunities to learn about colors, shapes, spatial concepts, reading readiness skills, letters, and word recognition just to name a few. Although we are about teaching readiness skills, we also strive to provide an environment which is both nurturing and just plain fun for your child.
Staff

As we are a state licensed facility, all of our staff must meet state certification guidelines.

We seek out and are fortunate to have many teachers with degrees in education.  We pride ourselves on having very experienced early childhood teachers and feel truly blessed by the longevity of our staff — most of whom have been here from eight to twenty-plus years.
